Born circa 1955, Janie Long is a Warlpiri woman and school teacher at the local Primary
School in Ti Tree (190km North of Alice Springs). Like her skin relations Helen White and
Ruby Ross, she employs a painstaking and deliberate dotting style in her recent works that
are truly a labour of love. She paints aerial perspectives of the land often signifying songlines
and walking tracks that converge on a sacred site or meeting place. Janie is a little known
artist who paints infrequently, her paintings however, speak for themselves and are becoming
more sought after as her career progresses.
